Waterproof Wall Panelling

Pros

• The advantages of wall panelling include:
• Wipe clean surface
• No grout to discolour
• Warm to the touch
• Inhibits condensation
• Insulates the walls thermally
• Insulates the walls acoustically
• Little/no preparation of the walls required
• Will not rot
• Clean & easy to install  

 

Cons

• The only real disadvantage of wall panelling is the fact that there is a slightly limited choice of colours.

 

 

Ceramic Tiles

Pros

• Very large choice of colours & patterns
• Waterproof if grouted properly with waterproof grout

 

Cons

• Grout can turn mouldy
• Difficult to clean
• Cold to the touch
• Promotes condensation
• Extensive preparation required
• Messy to install

 

Wooden Tongue & Groove

Pros

• Warm to the touch

 

Cons

• Not waterproof
• Needs constant maintenance
• Will rot in contact with water

 

Wallpaper

Pros

• Cheap
• Large Range of colours & finishes

 

Cons

• Not waterproof
• Not really suitable for bathrooms long term
• Does not inhibit mould growth

 

Paint

Pros

• Cheap
• Large Range of colours

 

Cons

• Not waterproof
• Not suitable for shower areas
• Can blister under moist conditions
• Does not inhibit mould growth
